We have completed twenty-two weeks of school! Today is the 105th day. We are already three weeks into the third quarter. The time has flown by. Valentine's Day and Easter will be here before you know it.
February 12th we will be having our class Valentine's Day party. We will be having a snack and exchanging cards. Remember there are 25 students in the class. Please have enough cards for each classmate.
This week we have focused on groundhogs because of Groundhog Day being February 2nd. The groundhog did see his shadow, so there will be six more weeks of winter.
We are still plugging away with our curriculum. In our language arts book we have begun the first week of theme seven (Wheels Go Around). We will add the alphafriends for D, Z, and I to the ones we have already focused on (S, M, R, T, B, N, H, V, C, P, G, L, K, Q, and F). We have covered the high frequency words I, see, my, like, to, and, go, is, here & a. Next week we will continue having spelling tests. We have begun building words that contain the short a and short i. In math, we've worked on the fewest and most, ordinal numbers, making groups of objects that contain a given number, as well as continued working on positional words. We've started working with addition and telling time, as well as money (nickels and pennies). We are beginning the "wood and paper" unit in science. We are working in the social studies unit entitled "Workers".
Our spelling words for next week are: in, is, you, the, he, and she.
On Tuesday, I will be sending home the blue folders for the kids which need to be signed and returned on Wednesday. Remember to return library books. I will also be sending home homework which will continue to be due on Friday. The practice materials can be left at home. All that needs to be returned to school is the actual homework in the blue folder.
